Christmas Eve went really well. Had some family over for a fondue dinner (only 2 near fires), opened gifts, and played Apples to Apples. Christmas morning B.f. and I headed to Brownsville to his Grandpa's, where we spent the night, hit the Target sales, then headed to South Padre Island.
We planned on staying 3 nights but Sunday morning B.f. got a call from his bank- someone tried to make a large purchase at wal-mart.com but the bank declined the charge. As we were hanging out at the beach the day before, we left our wallets in the room, and b.f. had a bad feeling about that when we returned and saw the room tidied (housekeeping at that hotel has always been kinda sporadic and we figured that they weren't tidying unless we hung the door sign requesting it) and his wallet on the nightstand. Mine was on the table as well, but I don't use a typical wallet luckilly! (The cards were all in place so it seems that the housekeeper just wrote down the card #.) Desk clerk didn't know what to do; manager was out of town. Police officer was nice but as it was "attempted" and online, it was kinda out of their hands. He took a report and should some charge go through (which is unlikely as the bank cancelled the card) to call back and they'll go from there.So we cut our trip short. Not keen on staying there if they hire people who pull this shit. Mega bummer b/c Wanna Wanna Inn / Island Inn on the Beach has been our beach hotel for the past 4 or 5 years! So, if anyone has a recommendation for a laid back hotel super close to a bar/grill, let me know. : (
Was nice to have another whole day at home though. Got the last of the gifts wrapped (late xmas with dad tomorrow) and did some cooking. Lefse, mini-cranberry muffins, oreo truffles and chocolate covered pretzels for dinner tomorrow and new year's eve cocktail party (sips and sweets). Tomorrow I just need to finish dinner and then clean; shouldn't be too bad.
